Freedom-obsessed and determined to disrupt the eurocentric patriarchal canons that plague us, J LeShaé spends her days examining ancient, African, and matriarchal cultures to uplift countercultural expressions of truth and power.
This self-taught multidisciplinary artist has exhibited works nationally, including at The African American Museum of Dallas, The Abron Arts Center of New York, The Black Woman is God in San Francisco, and The Pencil on Paper Gallery in Dallas. She is also a featured HERstorian on “Natural Hair the Movie”, “Building the Bridge”, and the “Positively Gam” podcast.
A proud native of Pleasant Grove, Dallas, Texas, Jamie LeShaé Jenkins serves as the Founder and Executive Director of Building Opportunities & Opening Minds (BOOM), an award-winning youth leadership non-profit that cultivates Black & Brown visionaries to build POWER with their communities. BOOM has awarded over $300,000 in stipends and scholarships to Dallas-area high school students, college students, and early career educators.
With the Daughter of Dallas initiative, J fuses arts, activism, and education in service of archiving the diverse narratives of the architects of the Dallas Renaissance. The goal of this journalistic campaign is to bring forth a more inclusive and comprehensive portrayal of the city that highlights social groups historically erased from the mainstream narrative.
